ASB & USA Curling present Curling with Aloha 2019

American Savings Bank (ASB)'s Hawaii Curling Club and USA Curling present a special opportunity to curl in the beautiful state of Hawaii. Meet Olympic curlers, experience Hawaiian culture, and curl in the 50th state. It’s a curling event unlike anything you’ve ever experienced!

Curling… in Hawaii??

Yes! In 2013, ASB formed the Hawaii Curling Club and its annual fundraiser to benefit a select Hawaii nonprofit. This year, ASB is pleased to introduce Curling with Aloha, an exclusive Hawaiian-style event for curling enthusiasts from around the world.

I heard there will be *special guests*?

You heard right. U.S.Olympic Gold Medalist Tyler George AND U.S. Paralympian Steve Emt will be joining us! Participants will have a special opportunity to meet - and curl with - the Olympians in person.

And we'll be curling for a cause?

This event will raise much needed funds for We Are Oceania, a local nonprofit in the Aloha State. We Are Oceania advocates for the overall health and wellbeing of the Micronesian community in Hawaii. Through an initial pilot grant awarded by the Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs, Partners in Development Foundation serves as the mentor organization for We Are Oceania. We Are Oceania empowers Micronesians with tools to success, including a one-stop shop at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Kalihi, Honolulu, offering services such as translation, job training, housing assistance and legal assistance. We Are Oceania is a program of Partners in Development Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving disadvantaged Native Hawaiian communities throughout the state. How will the event work?

We’re offering a 120-minute session on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. Registration opens at 1:30 p.m. The session includes 90 minutes of curling time with hands-on instruction from the Olympians, plus use of curling equipment, traditional Hawaiian food and beverages, official "Hawaii Curling Club" merchandise, traditional lei welcome and autograph session with the Team USA Curling Olympians. Space in each session is limited, so sign up now to reserve your spot!

A few notes about the ice:

• The sheets will be shorter (about 30 ft.): This event is being held in Hawaii’s only ice rink (what’s normally an ice-skating rink). Because of this, our icemakers will need to work within the facility’s parameters.
• Speaking of ice makers, the ice is being prepared by USA Curling’s head ice technician alongside a former multiple-sport-use ice rink manager. This talented pair, which includes a certified Zamboni driver, will work day and night to flood, level, pebble and scrape the ice so that there will be speed and curl.
• In case you’re wondering, the stones are REAL curling stones. Brooms and sliders will be available free of charge – though you’re welcome to cart your own gear along if you’d prefer.

By the way, you may wonder why we’re not having a formal bonspiel. That day may come, but we’re currently focused on delivering the best Hawaii curling experience possible. Remember, there’s only one ice rink in Hawaii, so ice time is at a premium.

2. There is a $175 entry fee per person ($100 of each ticket is considered tax-deductible). To complete your registration, you will receive an email with a payment link.

3. Once registration and payment are received, you'll receive a confirmation email letting you know you are all set to curl...in Hawaii!
